I had the thought for a while: does artwork always have to go onto the wall?
If you like to rearrange your interior in your home the smaller items can easily be moved, but when moving artwork it leaves a hole in the wall which needs fixing…
So, the outcome was to create a piece which could stand on the floor and lean onto the wall, and to make it heavy I had a carpenter make it for me in solid wood. When the pieces had been put together nicely the first step was to paint it with ink in two colors, – black to darken it and afterwards umber to add a shade of warmth.
When happy with the result I started making the actual art piece… using all my favorite colors 🙂 – blending them together in a deep, warm abstraction. Besides acrylics I used pastel chalk and oil pastel. As a final touch it was treated with vanish.
Working on wood is very different than canvas; the wood is ‘thirsty’ for liquids so many, many layers had to be added. However, I really like the structure and love how the knots alone make a small piece of art.
The pieces measure each: 150 cm x 55 cm and can go together or separately.
